El Dorado, the gateway to Colombia and South America

El Dorado was the name chosen for the Bogota airport in 1959, due to its reference to the legend of El Dorado and the pre-Columbian culture of the country. In 2012, the capital inaugurated the new El Dorado terminal, which replaced the 50,000 m2 infrastructure that served the city for nearly 53 years. Today, with about 224,000 m2, an extension completed in 2017 and due to its strategic location, El Dorado Airport has become the gateway to and from the country and South America, being the most important airport in Colombia and connecting the country with more than 92 destinations in North America, South America, Central America and Europe.

During 2018 it stood as the first freight transport airport in Latin America, mobilizing more than 709,000 tons. It is also the third busiest passenger airport in the region transporting more than 32.7 million passengers.

The green side of El Dorado is an initiative that seeks to inform our clients and allies of the strategies to reduce environmental impacts worked by OPAIN for the Airport, in which innovation and regulatory compliance are integrated to generate balance between the environmental, the social and the economic. Within the framework of this initiative, waste management has led El Dorado Airport to obtain international recognition as the Outstanding Sustainability Program award by the American Association of Airport Executives and, in 2019, it officially received the certification of the Zero Waste Management System in Gold Category, which makes it a pioneer in this field in Latin America.

Aeropuerto de Carrasco

Carrasco International Airport is the main gateway to Uruguay. Since 2003 it has been managed by Puerta del Sur S.A., the concessionary company that belongs to Corporación América S.A., a capital investment group that encompasses different service and infrastructure companies and operates 52 airports worldwide.

The concession is responsible for the administration, operation, commercial management and maintenance of the airport. One of the most important milestones in the history of Puerta del Sur was the inauguration of the new passenger terminal in December 2009.

After three and a half years of construction and with an investment of 165 million dollars, the terminal became a source of pride for all Uruguayans.

Uruguayan architect Rafael Viñoly was in charge of the project and since its opening it has been awarded with several international prizes, which recognize and highlight its architectural level, aesthetics, operational functionality and services.

As the country's main airport terminal, Carrasco Airport is committed to offering the best travel experience, with the highest quality standards, through strategic actions that contribute to sustainable development and focus on social responsibility.

In this sense, it has made a strong commitment to offering top quality services through constant innovation and the incorporation of state-of-the-art technology, which allows the terminal to always be at the forefront.

Proof of this are projects such as the photovoltaic solar power plant inaugurated in 2018, which made it the first airport in Latin America to have its own energy generation system.

Last year Carrasco Airport became the first airport in Latin America to have facial biometrics technology available throughout the boarding process. This initiative is part of the Easy Airport project, the technological development plan aimed at achieving total automation of the terminal.
